Self-Cleaning Filter for Cooling Tower Pipes: A Smart Solution Based on Differential Pressure

Working Principle Based on Differential Pressure

This filter system operates based on the principle of differential pressure. Here is how it works in detail:

  1. Continuous Pressure Monitoring: This filter is equipped with pressure sensors installed at the inlet and outlet. These two sensors continuously monitor the pressure of the water passing through the filter media.

  2. Detecting Dirt Accumulation: Over time, filtered particles and dirt will accumulate inside the filter. This accumulation will cause water flow resistance, so that the pressure on the inlet side will increase, while the pressure on the outlet side will decrease. The pressure difference between these two points is called differential pressure.

  3. Automatic Trigger (Backwash): When the differential pressure reaches a predetermined threshold (indicating that the filter is dirty), the control panel will automatically trigger a self-cleaning process (backwash).

  4. Cleaning Process: During backwash, the water flow will be reversed to clean the filter media. The dirty water from this process is then discharged, while clean water flows back into the system. This process occurs very quickly, without disrupting the normal operation of the cooling tower system.
