The Importance of Replacing Fillers and Drift Eliminators in Cooling Towers

To maintain optimal cooling tower performance, two key components—fillers and drift eliminators—require special attention. Over time, both components can suffer damage that seriously impacts cooling efficiency and operations.

Why Should Fillers Be Replaced?

Fillers serve to maximize the contact surface area between water and air for optimal cooling. Over time, fillers can experience:

  • Clogging – Accumulation of dirt, scale, or chemical deposits reduces water flow and heat transfer efficiency.

  • Physical Damage – Fragile or aged filler material causes uneven water distribution.

  • Decreased Thermal Efficiency – Damaged or substandard fillers increase system workload and energy costs.

Why Should Drift Eliminators Be Replaced?

Drift eliminators are responsible for capturing fine water droplets carried by airflow and returning them to the system. Replacement is necessary when:

  • Physical Damage: Drift eliminators are broken or damaged, rendering them ineffective at retaining water droplets.

  • Increased Drift: The flow of water carried out of the tower (drift) increases, causing water waste, chemical loss, and potential damage to the surrounding environment.

Custom Filler Solutions

We understand that every cooling tower has unique needs. Therefore, we provide fully customizable filler solutions:

  • Custom Size and Thickness: We can produce fillers with specific sizes and thicknesses to suit your cooling tower design, whether for small units or large industrial cooling towers.

  • Materials & Designs: We have a variety of filler materials and designs tailored for different operational conditions, such as for water containing high levels of sediment or for systems with high thermal loads.

Filler Material & Design Options:

  • PVC Filler – Chemical resistant, lightweight, for water temperatures <70°C.

  • UPVC Filler – Heat resistant (70°C to 80°C)

  • PP Filler – More heat resistant (80°C to 95°C)

  • Custom Shape & Density – Honeycomb, splash grid, or high-efficiency film fill.

Replace the filler with the latest material and design to:

✔ Improve cooling efficiency (lower approach temperature).

✔ Reduce pressure drop for more efficient fan/pump energy consumption.

✔ Minimize maintenance costs (durable, anti-clogging).
