How Chemical Treatment Prevents Problems

Water evaporation in cooling towers causes a significant increase in the concentration of minerals, solids, and microbes. Chemical treatment works by targeting these specific problems, namely:

  • 1. Anti-Scale (Scale Inhibitor)

    • Function: Prevents the buildup of minerals such as calcium carbonate and silica that form hard layers (scale) on the surface of heat exchangers, pipes, and fillers.

    • Prevention: Scale inhibitors work by interfering with the mineral crystallization process, keeping the minerals dissolved in the water and preventing them from adhering to surfaces. This maintains efficient heat transfer, saves energy, and prevents clogging.

  • 2. Anti-Corrosion (Corrosion Inhibitor)

    • Function: Protects metal components from corrosion caused by water or unbalanced pH conditions.

    • Prevention: Corrosion inhibitors form a thin protective layer on metal surfaces, preventing direct contact between the metal and water and oxygen. This extends the life of vital components such as pipes, pumps, and condensers.

  • 3. Anti-Algae (Biocide)

    • Function: Controls and kills microorganisms such as bacteria, algae, and fungi that can thrive in the warm water of cooling towers.

    • Prevention: Biocide prevents the formation of biofilm (slime layer) that can clog fillers and pipes. Control of microbes is also important to prevent health problems and maintain the overall efficiency of the cooling system.

With the right chemical treatment program, we ensure that your cooling tower system remains clean, protected, and operating at peak performance, free from scale, corrosion, and microbial growth problems.
